Interview with Perfetto

Q. Please briefly introduce yourself and tell us about your background for those who don’t know you yet.

A. My name is Patrick Perfetto, also known as Perfetto I am a Music Producer, songwriter DJ, and Drummer. I have been doing music my entire life since I started playing drums at the age of 10. I started playing drums in the jazz band, marching band, percussion ensemble, and a variety of rock bands.

My first semester at Berklee College of Music I got really into music production, After college, I started a recording studio in Boston and worked with a variety of different rappers and songwriters. I started Perfetto in 2011 and moved to Los Angeles. It has been a crazy journey since I moved to LA, and my first big break was winning the Insomniac Discovery Project in 2014.

Since then I have been releasing music, touring and playing shows, and constantly working on music

Q. What first got you into music?

A. Blink-182 got me into music when I first started. I loved playing drums and I really enjoyed hitting things. I was always tapping on my desk at school, and playing on whatever drum I could get ahold of. I would play wipeout, jam with my brother, and study with Dr. Richard Slocum at Good Counsel High School.

Dr. Slocum was in charge of the music department, and he helped cultivate and craft my musicianship. He taught me how to read music and play jazz, and he helped me achieve my goals. Music has always come first in my life, and nothing comes close to my love for music.

Q. What is your creative process like?

A. My creative process is always different. Sometimes I start with chords, drum programming, or I just play piano or guitar. I like to collaborate with others because you can bounce ideas off each other. With the coronavirus pandemic, I moved the studio into my house and it’s easier to write at the convenience of my home.

I use Ableton Live for production, and I also like to use the Akai MPC or Native Instruments Maschine. I like to light incense and get in the flow state. I find that the flow state happens when you just focus on your feelings and energy and let it align with the music.

Q. If you could open a show for any artist who would it be? A. I would open for Skrillex. He has always been a huge influence on my music, and I love the way he has control over the crowd. Q. What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t for your music career? Why?

A. I would probably be doing something with economics or stocks. I love bitcoin, stocks, and real estate. Music is always my passion, but if I was not able to do music, I would be a stockbroker or a career in finance.

Q. What is the most trouble you’ve ever gotten into?

A. Let not answer this one….. Haha I used to be a bad boy.

Q. How do you feel about your current position in the music industry? Is it going well for you?

A. I love my current position in the music industry. I have some great collaborations with various artists, and I can’t’ wait to release them. Coronavirus has put a lot of musicians in a tough position this year. During the pandemic people want to listen to music, it is important to them.

Q. Let us know what’s special in your music and please share a link to your most special track.

A. I always try to make my music speak to the audience through meaningful and catchy melodies. I have not released any music in 2020, but I have some great songs coming soon. In 2021 I plan to release a lot of songs. A special track of mine is a song featuring Orgy. I am very excited for that song to come out, but I am not going to give any details away.
